Abstract
A synthetic fence post assembly for realizing enhanced decorative capabilities of a synthetic fence. The assembly provides an apparatus for securely attaching accessories to the end of a synthetic fence post without structurally degrading the fence post. The apparatus comprises a connector member with a first and second interface surface one of which securely interfaces with the top of a synthetic post and the second of which is available to interface with various fencing accessories. In one embodiment, the connector member is substantially transparent, such that the connector forms a lens that is securely fastenable to a fence post and is capable of supporting a light mounted thereon.
Claims27
A synthetic fence post assembly comprising:
- a connector member for placement on the end of a fence post having first and second interface surfaces oriented substantially parallel with one another, wherein said first and second interface surfaces contain engaging means for engaging interfacing structures and wherein said interface surfaces define interface planes with said interfacing structures;
- and
- a top member having a first end for engaging said interface surface of said support member.
A synthetic fence post assembly comprising:
- A connector member for placement on the end of a fence post comprising:
- first and second interface surfaces oriented substantially parallel with one another wherein said first and second interface surfaces contain engaging means for engaging interfacing structures and wherein said interface surfaces define interface planes with said interfacing structures;
- an interior sidewall and an exterior sidewall located between said interface surfaces configured such that they form an opening;
- and
- a support mount interconnected to said interior sidewall in said opening for receiving an accessory in axial alignment with said fence;
- and
- a top member having a first end for engaging one said interface surface of said support member.
A fence post assembly comprising:
- A substantially transparent connector member for placement on the end of a fence post comprising:
- first and second interface surfaces oriented substantially parallel with one another wherein said first and second interface surfaces contain first and second engaging means for engaging interfacing structures and wherein said interface surfaces define interface planes with said interfacing structures;
- an interior sidewall and an exterior sidewall located between said interface surfaces configured such that an opening is integrally defined;
- and
- a light diffusing means on a surface of at least one of said interior and exterior sidewalls;
- and
- a top member having a first end for engaging an interface surface of said support member.
The apparatus of claim 21, wherein said at least one of said engaging means comprises a continuous sidewall oriented perpendicular to said interface surfaces, wherein said sidewall is operative receive at least on of said interfacing structures.
A method for installing an accessory to a fence post utilizing a connection member, said method comprising the steps of:
- defining an opening on the end of said fence post;
- providing said connection member with a first interface surface and a second interface surface oriented substantially parallel with one another, wherein said first and second interface surfaces contain engaging means for engaging interfacing structures;
- positioning said connector member such that one interface surface is oriented atop said fence post opening and said engaging means engages said fence post wherein said second interface surface is exposed;
- placing an accessory on said second interface surface such that said engaging means engages said accessory;
- and
- securing said engaging means to said fence post and said accessory using a fastening means.
