In a method for determining the lateral acceleration of a motor vehicle, the lateral acceleration is calculated from signals of a wheel sensor and a load sensor. Since in many cases these sensors are already present on the vehicle, e.g., for chassis control, additional sensors are not necessary. The values for the lateral acceleration thus ascertained may then be used in further devices, such as for a vehicle dynamics controller or a device for preventing tipping. For example, usable as a load sensor in the case of a pneumatic suspension is also a pressure sensor which measures the pressure within the pressure bellows of the pneumatic suspension and supplies a signal, corresponding to the mass or the axle load, to the control. The lateral acceleration may be determined with the aid of a steering-angle sensor.
A method for determining the lateral acceleration of a motor vehicle (1), at least one sensor, preferably a wheel or speed sensor (4), supplying corresponding signals for determining the lateral acceleration to a control (2), wherein, in addition, a load sensor (3) is provided which detects the load at one wheel or axle of the motor vehicle (1) and supplies a corresponding load signal to the control (2), and the control (2) calculates lateral acceleration (ayz) and/or center-of-gravity height (hz) of the motor vehicle (1) from at least the signals of the load sensor (3) and the wheel sensor (4) as a function of the driving condition of the motor vehicle, according to a predefined algorithm.
The method as recited in one of the preceding claims, wherein the control (2) determines the center-of-gravity height (hz) during straight-ahead driving.
The method as recited in one of the preceding claims, wherein the control (2) determines the axle load (alb) from the signals of the load sensor (3) at one rear wheel of the automotive truck.
The method as recited in one of the preceding claims, wherein the control (2) determines the lateral acceleration (ayz) with the aid of the yaw velocity.
The method as recited in one of the preceding claims, wherein the control (2) determines the longitudinal acceleration (axz) from the signals of the wheel sensor (4).
The method as recited in one of the preceding claims, wherein the load sensor (3) is a pressure sensor which measures the air pressure in a pneumatic suspension bellows of a pneumatic suspension.
The method as recited in one of the preceding claims, wherein the load sensor (3) is a spring-travel sensor which determines the load from the spring travel of one wheel or one axle of the motor vehicle.
The method as recited in one of the preceding claims, wherein a steering-angle sensor (10) is provided as a further sensor which detects the steering angle of the motor vehicle (1) and sends it to the control (2).
The method as recited in one of the preceding claims, wherein the load sensor (3) and/or the wheel sensor (4) is a component of a device present for preventing tipping or for level control.
The method as recited in one of the preceding claims, wherein the algorithm for determining the lateral acceleration (ayz) and/or the center-of-gravity height (hz) is in the form of a software program.
