Positive response biosensors and other sensors

A sensor for detecting an analyte in an environment, the sensor comprising:

• a first reaction system including a first enzyme or a first substrate, the analyte being a substrate for the first enzyme if the first reaction system includes the first enzyme or the first enzyme if the first reaction system includes the first substrate;
• and
• at least a second reaction system that reacts to produce a first detectable state when the analyte is below a certain concentration.

A method of detecting an analyte in an environment, the method comprising the steps of:

• providing a first reaction system including a first enzyme and a substrate for the first enzyme, the analyte inhibiting the first enzyme;
• and
• providing at least a second reaction system that reacts to produce a first detectable state when the first enzyme is inhibited.

A method for detecting an analyte in an environment, the method comprising the steps of:

• providing a first reaction system including a first enzyme or a first substrate for the first enzyme, the analyte being a substrate for the first enzyme if the first reaction system includes the first enzyme or the first enzyme if the first reaction system includes the first substrate for the first enzyme;
• and
• providing at least a second reaction system that reacts to produce a first detectable state when the analyte is below a certain concentration.

A sensor for detecting an analyte in an environment, the sensor comprising:

• a first reaction system that is reduced in reactivity by the presence of the analyte;
• and
• at least a second reaction system that reacts to produce a first detectable state when the first reaction system is inhibited.

A sensor for detecting an analyte in an environment, the sensor comprising:

• a first reaction system including a first compound that produces a reaction with the analyte;
• and
• at least a second reaction system that reacts to produce a first detectable state when the analyte is below a certain concentration.

A method of detecting an analyte in an environment, the method comprising the steps of:

• providing a first reaction system that is reduced in reactivity by the presence of the analyte;
• and
• providing at least a second reaction system that reacts to produce a first detectable state when the first reaction system is inhibited.

A method for detecting an analyte in an environment, the method comprising the steps of:

• providing a first reaction system including a first compound, the first compound causing a reaction with the analyte;
• and
• providing at least a second reaction system that reacts to produce a first detectable state when the analyte is below a certain concentration.
