System, method, and computer program product for configuring computing systems

A method for controlling the operation of at least one specific computing system in a network having at least one server and at least one specific computing system, wherein said method comprises the steps of:

• providing a plurality of configuration files comprising at least one base configuration file having configuration attributes common to computing systems in the network and at least one aspect configuration file having at least one configuration attribute that is specific to the specific computing system;
• updating the base configuration file by applying the at least one configuration attribute of the aspect configuration file to the base configuration file to produce a session configuration file;
• and
• controlling the specific computing system based on the session configuration file.

A system for configuring a computing system in a network based on at least a specific computing element and a specific user comprising the computing system, said system comprising:

• a plurality of computing systems in communication with a network, wherein each computing system comprises at least a specific computing element and a specific user;
• at least one server element in communication with said plurality of computing systems via the network;
• a storage element comprising:
• a base configuration file;
• a plurality of aspect configuration files comprising a plurality of configuration attributes;
• and
• a table comprising associations between at least one aspect configuration file and at least one of a specific computing element and a specific user;
• and
• a processing element in communication with said plurality of computing systems and said server element, wherein said processing element configures a given computing system based on the specific computing element and specific user comprising the given computing system, said processing element accesses the associations in said table and generates a session configuration file for the given computing system by updating the configuration attributes of the base configuration file with configuration attributes of the aspect configuration files associated with the specific computing element and the specific user comprising the given computing system.

A method for configuring a specific computing system in a network having a plurality of computing systems based on at least a specific computing element and a specific user comprising the computing system, said method comprising the steps of:

• providing configuration attributes in a plurality of configuration files, wherein the plurality of configuration files comprises a base configuration file comprising configuration attributes for the plurality computing systems in the network and at least one aspect configuration file comprising at least one configuration attribute for the specific computing system;
• associating the least one aspect configuration file with at least one of the specific computing element and the specific user comprising the specific computing system;
• requesting configuration attributes for the specific computing system;
• accessing the base configuration file and the at least one aspect configuration file associated with at least one of the specific computing element and the specific user;
• updating the configuration attributes of the base configuration file with configuration attributes of the at least one aspect configuration file to create a session configuration file;
• and
• controlling operations of the specific computing system according the configuration attributes contained in the session configuration file.
