Lever type connector assembly

A lever type connector assembly including first and second connector housings (10, 20) detachably coupled to each other, a lever (60) having a cam groove (64), and an attaching member (40) rotatably supporting said lever (60), said attaching member (40) being mounted on the second connector housing (20), cam pins (14) on the first connector housing (10) engaging said cam groove (64) in said lever (60), said connector housings (10, 20) being regularly coupled to each other when said lever (60) is turned from a coupling start position to a coupling completion position, said lever type connector assembly being characterized in that:

• said attaching member (40) is provided with a projection (48) that protrudes in a coupling area (25) in the second connector housing (20);
• one of said projection (48) and said lever (60) being provided in said coupling area (25) with an elastic latch (66) that can restrain said lever (60) in the coupling start position from turning to the coupling completion position by engaging said elastic latch (66) with a mateable latch portion (49) on the other of said projection (48) and lever (60);
• and
• the first connector housing (10) being provided with a release portion (16) that releases said elastic latch (66) from said mateable latch (49) by engaging said release portion (16) with said elastic latch (66) when the first connector housing (10) is advancing in said coupling area (25), thereby elastically deforming said elastic latch (66) to disengage said elastic latch (66) from said mateable latch (49).
