Abstract
In order to drive a single-mode laser device (126) using a differential-pair output stage (100) it is necessary to maintain collector terminals of transistors forming the differential-pair at a predetermined potential. Since the potential dropped across the laser device (126) is only about 1V, a Schottky diode (124) is provided between a cathode of the laser device (126) and a second supply rail (114) to raise the cathode by about 0.5V above the voltage of the second supply rail (114).
Claims18

A load circuit apparatus (116) for coupling to an output stage (100) of a driver circuit (300), the apparatus (116) comprising a single-mode laser device (126), characterised by coupling means (124) for maintaining an output node (118, 120) of the output stage (100) at a predetermined minimum potential, thereby ensuring that the single-mode laser (126) is switchable at an optimum speed.
A driver circuit apparatus (300) for a single-mode laser device (126), the apparatus (300) comprising an output stage (100) for coupling to the single-mode laser device (126), wherein the output stage comprises an output node, characterised in that the output node is maintained at a predetermined minimum potential for ensuring that the single-mode laser (126) is switchable by the output stage (100) at an optimum speed.
A use of a diode (124) for an output stage (100) of a driver circuit (300) for a single-mode laser device (126), characterised in that the diode (124) maintains an output node of the output stage (100) at a predetermined minimum potential, thereby ensuring that the single-mode laser device (126) is switchable at an optimum speed.
A control circuit apparatus (200) for dynamically generating a voltage level applied in a driver circuit (300), characterised by the apparatus (200) comprising an active device (206) operably coupled to voltage level generation means (212) for generating the voltage level from a supply voltage (Vcc), the voltage generation means (212) being arranged to generate the voltage level in response to a degree of actuation of the active device (206), wherein the active device (206) is driven in response to the supply voltage (Vcc).
An optical communication network comprising the apparatus as claimed in any one of the preceding claims.
