Abstract
A disposable absorbent article, such as a diaper. The disposable absorbent article has a topsheet with apertures large enough for low-viscosity fecal material to pass through to a fecal material storage element. The fecal material storage element immobilizes the fecal material in position for dewatering, so that the liquid components of the fecal material are absorbed by the core and the solid components of the fecal material are separated from the liquid components. This arrangement provides for easier cleaning of the wearer when the soiled disposable absorbent article is removed.
Claims20
A disposable absorbent article for being worn by a wearer, the disposable absorbent article comprising:
- a liquid pervious topsheet;
- a backsheet;
- and
- a fecal material storage element intermediate the topsheet and the backsheet, the fecal material storage element having two major faces, a first major face oriented towards the topsheet and a second major face oriented towards the backsheet, whereby the disposable absorbent article has a trans-topsheet capacity greater than about 0.20 grams per square inch.
A disposable absorbent article for being worn by a wearer, the disposable absorbent article comprising:
- a liquid pervious topsheet;
- an absorbent core intermediate the topsheet and the backsheet;
- a fecal material storage element intermediate the topsheet and the core, the fecal material storage element having two major faces, a first major face oriented towards the topsheet and a second major face oriented towards the core, wherein less than fifty percent of the surface area of the first major surface of the fecal material storage element is bonded to the topsheet and at least fifty percent of the surface area of the second major surface of the fecal material storage element is bonded to the core, the disposable absorbent article having a trans-topsheet capacity greater than about 0.30 grams per square inch;
- and
- a backsheet at least partially peripherally joined to one of the topsheet and the fecal material storage element.
A disposable absorbent article for being worn by a wearer, the disposable absorbent article comprising:
- a liquid pervious topsheet including apertures having an effective aperture size of at least 0.3 square mm;
- a backsheet at least partially peripherally joined to the topsheet;
- and
- a fecal material storage element intermediate the topsheet and the backsheet, the fecal material storage element having two major faces, a first major face oriented towards the topsheet and a second major face oriented towards the backsheet, wherein the disposable absorbent article has a trans-topsheet capacity greater than about 0.20 grams per square inch;
- and
- wherein the topsheet is bonded to the fecal material storage element at discrete sites to permit the topsheet to separate from the fecal material storage element between about 0.5 and about 7.6 cm.
