Abstract
4-Hydroxy-6-methyl-3-(3-methylbutanoyl)-2-pyrone has a rapid controlling effect against arthropods such as Dictyoptera insects (e.g. German cockroach, smokybrown cockroach).

An arthropod-controlling composition which comprises 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-3-(3-methylbutanoyl)-2-pyrone as an active ingredient, and a carrier.
A method for controlling arthropods which comprises applying an effective amount of 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-3-(3-methylbutanoyl)-2-pyrone to arthropods or a place where the arthropods inhabit.
