Abstract
Image coding equipment wherein no sense of incongruity occurs when domains whose image quality should be improved are selected. To the domains selected with the domain selection section 111, the gradual coding parameter calculation section 112 computes the quantization values so that the quality of image may improve gradually toward the central part from the outside of the selected domain, and a picture is coded based on the value of such a parameter.

An image coding equipment, comprising:
- a domain selection section that selects arbitrary domains in a picture and characterized by changing the values of coding parameters of the domains selected by said domain selection section into values of parameters of the exterior of the selected domains.
An image coding equipment, comprising:
- an automatic domain selection section that automatically recognizes and selects the domains the image quality of which should be improved in a picture and characterized by changing the values of coding parameters of the domains selected by said automatic domain selection section into values of parameters of the exterior of the selected domains.
An image coding equipment, comprising:
- an automatic domain selection section that automatically recognizes and selects the domains the image quality of which should be improved in a picture and characterized by changing the values of coding parameters of the domains selected by said automatic domain selection section into values of parameters of the exterior of the selected domains;
- wherein said automatic domain selection section is equipped with a motion value detection means that detects motion values which are amounts of picture motions, a motion value judgment means that judges whether the motion values detected by said motion value detection means are equal to or larger than the predetermined values, and a selection means that selects the parts of the picture of those motion values as the domains the image quality of which should be improved when the judgment result of said motion value judgment means is that those motion values are equal to or larger than the predetermined values.
An image coding equipment according to any one of the claims from 1 to 4, comprising:
- a gradual coding parameter calculation section that automatically calculates gradually changing coding parameters that change gradually in said selected domains and maximize the bit amount necessary to code a picture within the predetermined bit amount.
An image coding program that makes a computer execute a domain selection step in which specifications of arbitrary domains in a picture are input, a coding parameter change step in which the values of coding parameters of the domains whose specifications are input at said domain input step are changed to different values from the values of parameters domains other than the domains whose specifications are input at said domain selection step.
