Abstract
A method and a system is provided for reducing aircraft engine fuel consumption by selectively closing an aircraft surge bleed valve (SBV), when the surge bleed valve would normally be open. The method determines whether the engine bleed flow obtained with the closed SBV is sufficient to prevent engine surge for the present flight regime. If so, the SBV is kept closed, while the aircraft is drawing air from the engine.
Claims12
A method for reducing aircraft engine fuel consumption by selectively closing an aircraft surge bleed valve (SBV), when the surge bleed valve would normally be open, comprising the following steps:
- (a) determining whether an engine bleed flow obtained with a closed SBV is sufficient to prevent engine surge for a present flight regime;
- and
- (b) if so, keeping the SBV closed, while the aircraft is drawing air from the engine.
A system for reducing aircraft engine fuel consumption by selectively closing an aircraft surge bleed valve (SBV), when the surge bleed valve would normally be open, comprising:
- means for determining whether an engine bleed flow obtained with a closed SBV is sufficient to prevent engine surge for a present flight regime;
- and
- means for keeping the SBV closed, while the aircraft is drawing air from the engine.
