Abstract
A syringe having an air release assembly slidingly clamped to a syringe barrel, the air release assembly having a lower portion with a slider valve insert and an upper portion with a rearward facing chamber. The syringe barrel has an opening at the juncture of the barrel and a front wall and the air release assembly upper and lower portions define an opening. Forward movement of the air release assembly closes the barrel opening and prepares the syringe for fluid filling and fluid ejection. Rearward movement of the air release assembly aligns the barrel opening with the air release assembly opening so that slight plunger pressure ejects barrel liquid trapped air bubbles to an outside environment.
Claims6
A syringe with air removal capability comprising
- a barrel having a front wall with an opening at said barrel and front wall juncture;
- a fluid chamber defined by said barrel and said front wall;
- a slidingly fitted plunger mounted within said barrel fluid chamber;
- a hollow needle in open communication with said fluid chamber;
- and
- an air release assembly, said air release assembly having a lower portion containing a slider valve insert adjacent to said barrel surface and adjacent to a barrel extension surface and an upper portion having a rearward opening chamber, said upper portion and said lower portion defining an opening beginning at said slider valve insert and terminating in said upper portion chamber.
A method for releasing liquid trapped air contained in a syringe comprising
- a barrel having a front wall with an opening at said barrel and front wall juncture;
- a fluid chamber defined by said barrel and said front wall;
- a slidingly fitted plunger mounted within said barrel fluid chamber;
- a hollow needle in open communication with said fluid chamber;
- and
- an air release assembly, said air release assembly having a lower portion containing a slider valve insert adjacent to said barrel surface and adjacent to a barrel extension surface and an upper portion having a rearward opening chamber, said upper portion and said lower portion defining an opening beginning at said slider valve insert and terminating in said upper portion chamber, comprising the steps of
- sliding said air release assembly forward to close said barrel opening;
- immersing said hollow needle into a liquid;
- retracting said plunger until a desired volume of liquid fills said fluid chamber;
- tipping said syringe so said hollow needle is higher than said syringe barrel;
- rotating said syringe so that said air release chamber is facing upward;
- sliding said air release chamber rearward with a snapping motion to begin air ejection and to align said air release chamber opening and said barrel opening;
- slowly pushing said plunger forward until liquid is observed to enter said upper portion chamber;
- immediately sliding said air release assembly forward to close said barrel opening;
- and
- injecting syringe fluid.
