Abstract
The present invention provides a method for preventing proliferation of melanoma cells by contacting melanoma cells with an agent which is capable of modulating the expression of E-cadherin in the melanoma cells thereby restoring keratinocyte control over melanoma cell proliferation.

A method of preventing proliferation of melanoma cells comprising contacting melanoma cells with an agent which modulates expression of E-cadherin in melanoma cells so that keratinocyte control over melanoma cell proliferation is restored.
A method of preventing proliferation of melanoma cells comprising contacting melanoma cells with an agent which modulates the HGF autocrine loop in melanoma cells so that down regulation of E-cadherin and Desmoglein 1 and uncontrolled proliferation of said melanoma cells are prevented.
