Abstract
The present invention provides substantially pure integrins containing a novel β subunit designated as β6. The novel β6 subunit forms heterodimers with αV and αF. Methods of controlling cell adhesion using the β6-containing integrins are also provided.
Claims21
A substantially purified integrin cell surface receptor subunit comprising β6.
A substantially purified integrin comprising β6 bound two an α subunit.
A substantially purified amino acid fragment specific to β6.
A reagent having specificity for an amino acid sequence specific for β6.
A substantially purified nucleic acid encoding β6.
A method of preventing the binding of a cell expressing a β6-containing integrin to ligand capable of binding to said β6-containing integrin, comprising blocking the binding of the β6-containing integrin and the ligand.
A method of detecting a ligand that binds a β6-containing integrin, comprising contacting the β6-containing integrin with a solution containing the ligand suspected of binding β6-containing integrins and detecting the presence of the ligand bound to the β6-containing integrin.
A method of increasing cell adhesion in cells expressing a β6-containing integrin, comprising overexpressing the β6-containing integrin in a cell.
A method of decreasing cell adhesion in cells expressing a β6-containing integrin comprising binding the β6-containing integrin with a ligand.
