Purified genes encoding a cytokine or composite cytokine from a mammal, reagents related thereto including purified proteins, specific antibodies, and nucleic acids encoding these molecules are provided. Methods of using said reagents and diagnostic kits are also provided.

An isolated or recombinant polynucleotide encoding an antigenic polypeptide comprising at least 17 contiguous amino acids from the mature polypeptide from SEQ ID NO:
- 2, 4, 6, or 8.
A binding compound comprising an antibody binding site which specifically binds to at least 17 contiguous amino acids from SEQ ID NO:
- 2, 4, 6, or 8.
A method of modulating physiology or development of a cell or tissue culture cells comprising contacting said cell with an agonist or antagonist of a primate IL-D80 or IL-27.
A composite cytokine comprising a plurality of segments of SEQ ID NO:
- 2, 4, 6, or 8 and SEQ ID NO:
- 10.
A receptor subunit:ligand composition comprising a plurality of polypeptide segments of SEQ ID NO:
- 2, 4, 6, or 8;
- SEQ ID NO:10;
- and SEQ ID NO:12.
A binding composition which specifically binds to an antigenic fragment of the receptor
