Abstract
The present invention is a composition for use as an oil and grease resistant coating for packaging materials including a radiation sensitive monomer; a photopolymerization initiator; and an additive, wherein the additive preferably is a chlorinated paraffin. Preferably, the composition is used to treat the surface of a paper or paperboard substrate and the substrate preferably is used subsequently in the manufacture of packaging materials, such as pet food bags.
Claims25
A pet food bag comprising:
- at least one layer of a paper substrate, wherein said paper substrate layer is treated with a varnish containing a non-fluorinated oil and grease resistant additive soluble in said varnish.
A pet food bag comprising:
- an inner paper substrate layer;
- an outer paper substrate layer;
- a middle paper substrate layer between the inner and outer layers;
- and
- a coating applied to at least one of the inner, middle, or outer layers, the coating comprising a non-fluorinated, UV-curable, oil and grease resistant composition.
A coated paper substrate that is resistant to oil and grease penetration comprising:
- one or more layers of paper;
- and
- a coating applied to at least one layer of the one or more layers of paper, the coating further comprising a varnish composition having a non-fluorinated oil and grease resistant additive therein.
An oil and grease resistant coating composition comprising:
- a) a radiation sensitive monomer;
- b) a photoinitiator;
- and
- c) an oil and grease resistant, non-fluorinated additive, wherein the additive is soluble in the monomer and provides a viscosity of about 200 to about 1,000 cP.
A composition comprising:
- a) a radiation sensitive monomer;
- b) a photopolymerization initiator;
- and
- c) a chlorinated paraffin.
An oil and grease resistant paper comprising:
- one or more layers of paper substrate;
- and
- a coating applied to at least one of the one or more layers of paper substrate, wherein the coating does not contain fluorine and the paper substrate provides at least 90% oil and grease resistance according to the RP2 grease test.
