Abstract
Inhaled insulin can be used to prevent the progression of beta cell failure in Type 2 diabetes, thereby slowing the onset, or by stopping the onset indefinitely, or ameliorating the disease in patients in whom it is already established.

A method of preventing immunologically mediated beta cell failure prior to or after the onset of Type 2 diabetes with inhaled insulin, comprising administering to a human patient in need of such prevention, an effective amount of inhaled insulin.
