Abstract
The invention relates to the capacitive modulation of the field distribution in a silent discharge lamp 1, by means of a structured, electrically conductive device 2 for definition of preferred locations for discharge structures in the lamp 1.
Claims16
A discharge lamp for dielectric barrier discharges having a discharge vessel (1) which is filled with a discharge medium and discharge electrodes (4), which are at least partially isolated from the discharge medium by means of a dielectric coating, with the discharge vessel (1) extending along at least one longitudinal direction, characterized by a device (2, 3, 5, 6-8) which is electrically conductive, is electrically DC-decoupled from the electrodes but is capacitively AC-coupled to at least one of the electrodes (4), with the conductive device (2, 3, 5, 6-8) being designed, by means of the capacitive coupling to the electrode (1), to modulate the equipotential lines, which are defined by the electric field between the electrodes (4), along the longitudinal direction.
The discharge lamp as claimed in one of the preceding claims, in which the conductive device (3) is provided in duplicated form, with each of the conductive devices (3) being capacitively coupled to in each case at least one electrode (4) of a respectively different polarity.
The discharge lamp as claimed in one of the preceding claims, in which the electrodes (4) are arranged in the interior of the discharge vessel (1), and the conductive device or devices (2, 3, 5, 6-8) is or are arranged outside the discharge vessel (1).
The discharge lamp as claimed in one of the preceding claims, in which the conductive device (3, 6, 7) is a holder, or a part of a holder, for the discharge vessel.
The discharge lamp as claimed in one of the preceding claims having a thermal device for controlling the heat transport to/from the lamp in an inhomogeneous manner along the longitudinal direction, and which is designed such that the temperature in the lamp is homogenized along the longitudinal direction during operation.
The discharge lamp as claimed in one of the preceding claims, in which the electrically conductive device (3) produces capacitive coupling between the electrode (4) coupled to it and those parts of the discharge area which are located closer to the opposite electrode (4).
The discharge lamp as claimed in one of the preceding claims, in which the modulation by means of the capacitive coupling is used for edge brightening in the discharge lamp.
The discharge lamp as claimed in one of the preceding claims, in which the discharge vessel (1) is elongated in the form of a rod.
The discharge lamp as claimed in one of the preceding claims, having a ballast which is designed for a pulsed operating method.
