Abstract
An apparatus for winding a spring on a shaft, such as for counterbalancing a roll-up door, includes a housing that carries a transmission which is positionable over the shaft. The transmission is configured to be coupled via a connector to one end of the spring, while the other end of the spring is fixed to the shaft. Rotation of the transmission results in a turning of the connector and a winding and/or elongation of the spring.
Claims15
An apparatus for applying a torsion force to a spring on a shaft, wherein a first end of the spring is secured to the shaft, the apparatus comprising:
- a housing mountable to a structure adjacent to the shaft;
- a transmission rotatably mounted within the housing and configured for positioning coaxially around the shaft;
- and
- a connector coupled to the transmission and configured for positioning coaxially around the shaft, the connector further configured for connection to a second end of the spring on the shaft.
An apparatus for applying a torsion force to a spring on a shaft, wherein a first end of the spring is secured to the shaft, the apparatus comprising:
- a housing mountable to a structure adjacent to the shaft;
- a metal tube capable of being positioned coaxially over the shaft, the metal tube comprising a first tubular section rotatably mounted within the housing, and a second tubular section extending from the housing, the second tubular section configured with external threads;
- a wheel gear secured to the first tubular section of the metal tube;
- a worm gear engaging the wheel gear, the worm gear having a head external to the housing for turning the worm gear;
- and
- a connector configured for threading on the second tubular section and for a connection of a second end of the spring on the shaft.
An apparatus for applying a torsion force to a spring on a shaft, wherein a first end of the spring is secured to the shaft, the apparatus comprising:
- a housing mountable to a structure adjacent to the shaft;
- a wheel gear rotatably mounted within the housing and configured for being positioned coaxially over the shaft;
- a worm gear engaging the wheel gear, the worm gear having a head external to the housing for turning the worm gear;
- and
- a plate mounted to the wheel gear, the plate configured for being positioned coaxially over the shaft and for connection of a second end of the spring.
An apparatus for elongating and winding a coil spring coaxially positioned over a shaft, the apparatus comprising:
- a housing mountable to a structure adjacent to the shaft;
- a metal tube capable of being positioned coaxially over the shaft, the metal tube comprising a first tubular section rotatably mounted within the housing, and a second tubular section extending from the housing;
- a transmission within the housing and engaging the first tubular section for rotation of the metal tube;
- a first connector secured to the second tubular section and configured for connection to a first end of the coil spring;
- a first tubular member having inner and outer circumferential surfaces and being positionable around the coil spring, a first end of the first tubular member connected to the first connector, the inner circumferential surface of the first tubular member adjacent to a second end of the first tubular member comprising internal threads;
- a second tubular member having inner and outer circumferential surfaces and being positionable around the coil spring, a first end portion of the second tubular member comprising external threads threadable into the internal threads of the first tubular member;
- and
- a second connector secured to a second end of the second tubular member and configured for connection to a second end of the coil spring.
