Abstract
The present invention relates to the discovery of a new member of the hedgehog receptor family, referred to herein as human ptc-2 (for patched-2 protein). The human ptc-2 polypeptides of the present invention include polypeptides which bind the products of the hedgehog gene family. Hedgehog family members are known for their broad involvement in the formation and maintenance of ordered spatial arrangements of differentiated tissues in vertebrates, both adult and embryonic, and can be used to generate and/or maintain an array of different vertebrate tissue both in vitro and in vivo.
Claims8
An isolated and/or recombinantly produced human ptc-2 polypeptide.
An isolated and/or recombinantly produced polypeptide comprising a ptc-2 amino acid sequence which can be encoded by a nucleic acid which hybridizes under stringent conditions to a sequence of SEQ ID. No. 1.
An isolated and/or recombinantly produced polypeptide comprising a ptc-2 amino acid sequence which is at least 90% identical with the sequence of SEQ ID. No. 2.
An isolated nucleic acid including a coding sequence for a human ptc-2 polypeptide.
An isolated nucleic acid including a coding sequence for a polypeptide comprising a ptc-2 amino acid sequence, which coding sequence hybridizes under stringent conditions to a sequence of SEQ ID. No. 1.
A nucleic acid comprising (i) a coding sequence for a polypeptide comprising a ptc-2 amino acid sequence, which coding sequence hybridizes under stringent conditions to a sequence of SEQ ID. No. 1;
- and (ii) a heterologous transcriptional regulatory sequence operably linked thereto.
An oligonucleotide probe comprising a nucleotide sequence which hybridizes under stringent conditions to a human ptc-2 gene, but not to a human ptc-1 gene.
