Abstract
There is disclosed a movable and transportable unit for carrying tools or implements for different types of equipment used at different locations. The unit is mountable and removable from a trailer bed, so that the trailer can be used for other purposes. The transportation unit has upper and lower mounting surfaces separate by a frame, and where at least one side of the unit is relatively open to permit loading and unloading of implements or tools onto the surfaces or in retainers associated with the unit.
Claims20
A trailer assembly for transporting equipment and implements comprising a wheeled trailer (58) having at least one removable load supporting platform (60);
- said platform having at least one open side for loading transportable apparatus and implements;
- and supporting means (10) associated with said platform;
- characterized by:
- a plurality of spaced apart implement retainers (20, 28, 32, 34, 40, 42) mounted by said supporting means for transporting said implements with said trailer, said supporting means comprising a plurality of frame members (12, 14, 16) extending above said platform, said frame having horizontal and vertical frame members, said spaced apart implement retainers being mounted by at least one of said vertical or horizontal frame members at a point spaced from said platform.
A one piece transportation unit adapted for mounting on a conventional trailer bed (58) to permit transportation of equipment and implements, characterized by the unit comprising:
- a monolithic frame having spaced apart upper and lower equipment mounting surfaces (12, 14);
- said frame having pairs of opposed sides, one pair of sides defining lateral sides (16a) for said unit, the other pair forming front and back sides (16b);
- said frame having supporting members (16) for positioning said upper surface in a spaced apart relationship relative to said lower surface;
- at least one side of said pairs of sides having an access opening between said upper and lower surfaces to permit loading of equipment onto said upper or lower surfaces;
- and
- a plurality of spaced apart implement retainers (20, 28, 32, 34, 40 and 42) mounted by said frame members for releasably retaining separate implements.
An apparatus as defined in claim 11, wherein at least one of said upper surfaces comprises a plurality of horizontal longitudinal and transverse frame members (14a, 12a) forming an upper open supporting surface.
A method of transporting equipment or components from a first storage site to a second remote location of the type comprising providing a transportation unit (60) mountable on a conventional trailer bed (58), characterized by:
- said unit comprising a monolithic frame having spaced apart upper and lower equipment mounting surfaces (12, 14);
- said frame having pairs of opposed sides, one pair of sides defining lateral sides (16a) for said unit, the other pair forming front and back sides (16b);
- said frame having supporting members (16) for positioning said upper surface in a spaced apart relationship relative to said lower surface;
- at least one side of said pairs of sides having an access opening between said upper and lower surfaces to permit loading of equipment onto said upper or lower surfaces;
- a plurality of spaced apart implement retainers (20, 28, 32, 34, 40, 42) mounted by said frame members spaced apart from said surfaces;
- mounting and securing said unit on a wheeled trailer bed at said first site;
- loading equipment onto at least one of said upper and lower mounting surfaces and said implement retainers either before or after said unit is mounted on said trailer bed;
- and
- transporting said equipment on said unit to said remote location.
