Abstract
A computer system for generating web page navigations. A user interacts with an input form for creating a web page and accepting input that specifies inclusion of the page in a navigation and the hierarchical level of the inclusion. The specifications of the input form are recorded in a view that provides an index into a database. A Java agent reads the view and a set of documents such as Lotus Notes documents indexed by the view and associated with a plurality of web pages to be included in the navigation. Based upon static HTML information contained in the documents, the agent generates the navigation, and inserts links associated with the navigation into the plurality of web pages.
Claims15
A computer system for generating web page navigations, comprising:
- an input form for creating a first web page and accepting input from a user to specify inclusion of the first web page in a navigation and to specify the hierarchical level of inclusion
- a view for recording specifications provided by the input form;
- and
- an agent for reading the view and responsive thereto reading a plurality of documents identified by the view associated respectively with a plurality of web pages to be included in the navigation, wherein said plurality of web pages includes the first web page and at least one other web page hierarchically associated with the first web page;
- generating the navigation;
- and inserting links associated with the navigation into the plurality of web pages.
A method for generating web page navigation, comprising the acts of:
- writing a view in response to a specification of a first web page to be included in a navigation and a hierarchical level at which the first web page is to be included in the navigation;
- reading the view to identify a plurality of documents associated respectively with a plurality of web pages to be included in the navigation wherein said plurality of web pages includes the first web page and at least one other web page hierarchically associated with the first web page;
- reading the documents identified by the view;
- generating the navigation in response to the documents read and the hierarchical level of the first web page;
- and
- inserting one or more links associated with the navigation into the plurality of web pages.
