Apparatus and method for providing an electronic book

A method for providing an electronic book, comprising:

• storing book information;
• inputting information regarding a user request for book information;
• processing the user request for book information;
• identifying book information to be provided to the user;
• displaying the book information to the user;
• processing a reading termination command entered by the user;
• terminating the presentation of the book information;
• and
• at least one of identifying, recording, and storing, a first location, wherein the first location is the location in the book information where the presentation of the book information is terminated, and further wherein a subsequent presentation of the book information to the user commences from a second location which is located before the first location in the book information, and further wherein the subsequent presentation of the book information includes a presentation of at least a portion of the book information previously presented to the user.

An apparatus for providing an electronic book, comprising:

• a receiver for receiving a user request for at least one of book information, a download of book information, a book information update, information at least one of from and regarding at least one of a publisher, provider, distributor, author, and writer, of book information, a request to post notes regarding book information, and a request to retrieve notes regarding book information posted by another user;
• a processor for processing the user request;
• and
• a transmitter for transmitting information responsive to the user request to an electronic book associated with the user;
• wherein the apparatus provides at least one of the transmits the requested at least one of book information, a download of book information, a book information update, information at least one of from and regarding at least one of a publisher, provider, distributor, author, and writer, of book information, and notes regarding book information posted by another user, and stores notes regarding book information posted by the user.
