Abstract
Methods for the prevention and treatment of diseases and conditions of the eye including, but are not limited to: central retinal artery occlusion; central retinal vein occlusion; optic neuropathy including, but not limited to, anterior ischemic optic neuropathy and glaucomatous optic neuropathy; and macular (dry) degeneration are disclosed. These methods comprise administering to a patient a prophylactically or therapeutically effective amount of a cyclic guanosine 3′,5′-monophosphate phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor. Pharmaceutical compositions and dosage forms comprising cyclic guanosine 3′,5′-monophosphate phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors are also disclosed.
Claims51
A method of treating or preventing central retinal or posterior ciliary artery occlusion which comprises administering to a patient in need of such treatment or prevention a therapeutically effective amount of a cyclic guanosine 3′,5′-monophosphate phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor.
A method of treating or preventing central retinal vein occlusion which comprises administering to a patient in need of such treatment or prevention a therapeutically effective amount of a cyclic guanosine 3′,5′-monophosphate phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor.
A method of treating or preventing optic neuropathy which comprises administering to a patient in need of such treatment or prevention a therapeutically effective amount of a cyclic guanosine 3′,5′-monophosphate phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor.
A method of treating or preventing macular (dry) degeneration which comprises administering to a patient in need of such treatment or prevention a therapeutically effective amount of a cyclic guanosine 3′,5′-monophosphate phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor.
A pharmaceutical dosage form for use in the treatment or prevention of a disease or condition of the eye comprising from about 5 to about 250 mg of a compound of Formula 1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof.
