Abstract
Migrastatin and a migrastatin analog can be produced by fermentation of Streptomyces platensis NRRL 18993 and used in pharmaceutical formulations to treat cancer and/or inhibit metastasis of cancer cells.

A method for producing migrastatin comprising the fermentation of Streptomyces platensis under conditions such that migrastatin is produced.
A migrastatin analog obtainable from fermentation broth of Streptomyces platensis NRRL 18993 fermented under conditions such that migrastatin is produced.
A method of purifying migrastatin or isomigrastatin from a fermentation medium, said method comprising steps of (1) solid phase extraction;
- (2) extraction with an organic solvent, and (3) chromatography.
A pharmaceutical formulation comprising isomigrastatin.
