Abstract
An elliptical vibratory cutting apparatus includes a control mechanism which applies a sinusoidal voltage having a predetermined phase difference to piezoelectric elements. Flexure vibrations are accordingly generated in X and Y directions. An amount of interference, caused by vibrations in one direction, with vibrations in another direction, is correctively eliminated by the control mechanism (interference eliminating unit 22). A workpiece is thus cut by means of a cutting tool through elliptical vibrations.
Claims4
A method of controlling an elliptical vibrator used for cutting a workpiece by means of a tool, vibrations in two directions being synthesized for causing elliptical vibrations of said elliptical vibrator and transmitting the elliptical vibrations to said tool, wherein
- an amount of interference by vibrations in one of the two directions with vibrations in the other direction is eliminated from the vibrations in said other direction.
A method of controlling an elliptical vibrator used for cutting a workpiece by means of a tool, vibrations in two directions being synthesized for causing elliptical vibrations of said elliptical vibrator and transmitting the elliptical vibrations to said tool, said method comprising the steps of:
- applying a voltage for driving said elliptical vibrator in a first direction to a piezoelectric element used for driving said elliptical vibrator in said first direction;
- detecting an amount of interference generated in a second direction, said interference being caused by driving of said elliptical vibrator in said first direction;
- and
- applying a voltage, to a piezoelectric element for driving said elliptical vibrator in said second direction, for vibrating said elliptical vibrator to cancel said amount of interference.
