Abstract
A method of determining the temperature of a fuel injector in an internal combustion engine includes the steps of supplying current to the fuel injector on engine startup, measuring the supplied current and voltage to the fuel injector, calculating the resistance of the fuel injector based on the measured current and voltage, and determining the temperature of the fuel injector based on the calculated resistance.
Claims5
A method of determining the temperature of a fuel injector in an internal combustion engine comprising the steps of:
- supplying current to the fuel injector on engine startup;
- measuring the supplied current and voltage to the fuel injector;
- calculating the resistance of the fuel injector based on the measured current and voltage;
- and
- determining the temperature of the fuel injector based on the calculated resistance.
2 more elements
A control system for metering fuel to an internal combustion engine comprising:
- a fuel injector;
- an electronic controller controlling a signal to the fuel injector that controls the amount of fuel supplied by the fuel injector;
- current and voltage detection apparatus in said electronic controller;
- a table stored in memory for the electronic controller containing fuel injector temperature values as a function of fuel injector resistance values;
- and
- wherein the electronic controller determines the resistance of the fuel injector using the current and voltage detection apparatus and determines the temperature of the fuel injector using the table.
