Abstract
An EMI shield for personal computers, cellular telephones, and other electronic devices is constructed from thermoformable polymeric material which is then metallized on all surfaces by vacuum metallization techniques to provide an inexpensive, lightweight, yet effective EMI shield.
Claims20
An EMI shield comprising
- a thin-walled shape formed of thermoformable polymeric material,
- said shape having an outer surface and an inner surface and edges,
- said shape having deposited thereon a coating of conductive metal vapor,
- said coating of thickness of approximately 1 to 50 microns.

A thin-walled polymeric body for shielding EMI comprising
- a polygonal shape formed from thin polymeric sheet which has been heated and drawn into a mold or onto a die,
- said shape having inner surfaces and outer surfaces,
- said shape having a conductive metal vapor coating on selected surfaces thereof,
- said coating being of thickness of at least 1 micron.
