Method and apparatus for continuous casting, especially casting of steel that can easily provide high quality steel that has no central segregation and central porosity. In other words, in the method and apparatus, central defects are to be eliminated first by identifying the solidifying conditions in the full range from the meniscus (the surface position of the upper portion of molten metal) to the crater end (a final solidification position), based on the type (profile) of continuous casting machine, type of steel, cross-sectional shape and size of a cast piece and the operating conditions such as casting speed, casting temperature and cooling conditions, with special attention paid to the pressure drop of liquid phase induced by the liquid flow between dendrites resulting from the solidification contraction in casting direction in the solid-liquid coexisting zone, second by calculating the condition of the formation of the above internal defects and their positions, and finally by applying an electromagnetic body force (Lorentz force) in the casting direction in the vicinity of the region where the internal defects are formed.
A continuous casting apparatus characterized by comprising means for exerting electromagnetic body force to exert electromagnetic body force (Lorentz force) toward casting direction of cast piece, in continuous casting.
The continuous casting apparatus characterized by comprising means for exerting electromagnetic body force to exert electromagnetic body force (Lorentz force) toward casting direction of cast piece in continuous casting, this means for exerting electromagnetic body force being installed with plural number of sliding electrodes attached in contact with the side surfaces of said cast piece, and at least one pair of superconductive coils being arranged so as to cross the direction of the current between these electrodes with the direction of generated magnetic field.
The continuous casting apparatus characterized by comprising means for exerting electromagnetic body force to exert electromagnetic body forces (Lorentz forces) toward casting directions onto the cast pieces in the range of space which include plural number of cast pieces, in the continuous casting where these plural number of cast pieces are concurrently, simultaneously cast.
The continuous casting apparatus characterized by comprising, means for exerting electromagnetic body force to exert almost uniform electromagnetic body force (Lorentz force) toward the opposite direction to the casting direction in continuous casting, said means for exerting electromagnetic body force having plural number of sliding electrodes being attached in contact with the both sides of said cast piece;
A continuous casting method characterized by comprising a step for exerting electromagnetic body force to exert electromagnetic body force (Lorentz force) toward casting direction of cast piece, in continuous casting.
