Abstract
A connector has opposed side walls (12) with a wire-receiving space therebetween. Insulation displacement portions (17) are cantilevered from the side walls (12) by cutting portions of the side walls (12) and bending the cut portions into the wire-receiving space. Bent portions (17A) are formed by bending free ends (17B) of the insulation-displacement portions (17) back toward the respective side wall (12).
Claims11
An insulation-displacement terminal fitting (T) for use with a wire (W), the wire (W) having a core (Wa) and a resin coating (Wb) surrounding the core (Wa), the insulation-displacement terminal fitting comprising:
- first and second opposed side walls (12) defining a wire-receiving space therebetween, first and second insulation-displacement portions (17) cut from portions of the respective side walls (12) and folded to cantilever into the wire receiving space, each said insulation-displacement portion (17) having a bent portion (17A) in the wire-receiving space and an extending end (17B) extending from the bent portion (17A) back toward the respective side wall (12) from which the respective insulation-displacement portion (17) is cantilevered, whereby the resin coating (Wb) of the wire (W) pushed into the wire receiving space is cut open by the bent portions (17A) of insulation-displacement portions (17), such that the core (Wa) of the wire (W) is brought into contact with the bent portions (17A).
An insulation-displacement terminal fitting (T) comprising:
- a bottom wall (11) with opposite side edges, opposed side walls (12) extending from the respective side edges of the bottom wall (11) and defining a wire-receiving space therebetween, a pair of opposed insulation-displacement portions (17) cantilevered respectively from the side walls (12) and folded into the wire receiving space, each said insulation-displacement portion (17) having a base end unitary with the respective side wall (12), an extending end (17B) remote from the base end and a bent portion (17A) between the base end and the extending end (17B), sections of each said insulation-displacement portion (17) between the bent portion (17A) and the extending end (17B) being bent back toward the respective side wall (12) from which the respective insulation-displacement portion (17) is cantilevered, at least one stopper (24) formed on each said side wall (12) and projecting into the wire receiving space at a location such that the extending end (17B) of each said insulation-displacement portion (17) is between the base end thereof and the corresponding stopper (24), whereby the stoppers (24) restrict flattening of the bent portions (17A).
An insulation-displacement terminal fitting (T) comprising:
- a bottom wall (11) with opposite side edges, opposed side walls (12) extending from the respective side edges of the bottom wall (11) and defining a wire-receiving space therebetween, a pair of opposed insulation-displacement portions (17) cantilevered respectively from the side walls (12) and folded into the wire receiving space, each said insulation-displacement portion (17) having a base end unitary with the respective side wall (12), an extending end (17B) remote from the base end and a bent portion (17A) between the base end and the extending end (17B), sections of each said insulation-displacement portion (17) between the bent portion (17A) and the extending end (17B) being bent back toward the respective side wall (12) from which the respective insulation-displacement portion (17) is cantilevered, stopper means (24) formed on each said side wall (12) for restricting flattening of the bent portions (17A).
