System and method of non-spoken telephone communication

A method of telephone communication, comprising:

• establishing a connection between a first telephone and a code-compatible second telephone;
• transmitting a code from the first telephone to the second telephone;
• relating the code to a non-alphanumeric message unit stored in the second telephone;
• and
• forwarding the message unit to an output device associated with the second telephone, independent of transmitting the message unit to the first telephone.

A code-compatible telephone, comprising:

• a display screen;
• an input/output interface adapted to detect a code transmitted by an additional telephone;
• a processor operably coupled to the input/output interface and the display screen;
• a first set of memory locations operably coupled to the processor, wherein the first set of memory locations contains program instructions executable by the processor for (i) identifying an alphanumeric message unit corresponding to the detected code, wherein the alphanumeric message unit comprises multiple alphanumeric characters, and (ii) forwarding the message unit to the display screen;
• and
• a second set of memory locations operably coupled to the processor, wherein the second set of memory locations contains correspondence data accessible by the processor for said identifying an alphanumeric message unit.

A code-compatible telephone, comprising:

• an output device;
• an input/output interface adapted to detect a code transmitted by an additional telephone;
• a processor operably coupled to the input/output interface and the output device;
• a first set of memory locations operably coupled to the processor, wherein the first set of memory locations contains program instructions executable by the processor for (i) identifying a non-alphanumeric message unit corresponding to the detected code and (ii) forwarding the message unit to the output device, independent of transmitting the message unit to the additional telephone;
• and
• a second set of memory locations operably coupled to the processor, wherein the second set of memory locations contains correspondence data accessible by the processor for said identifying a non-alphanumeric message unit.

A method for processing input to a telephone, comprising:

• detecting a code transmitted from an additional telephone;
• identifying an alphanumeric message unit corresponding to the detected code, wherein the alphanumeric message unit comprises multiple alphanumeric characters;
• and
• forwarding the alphanumeric message unit to a display screen.

A method for processing input to a telephone, comprising:

• detecting a code transmitted from an additional telephone;
• identifying a non-alphanumeric message unit corresponding to the detected code;
• and
• forwarding the non-alphanumeric message unit to an output device, independent of transmitting the non-alphanumeric message unit to the additional telephone.
