The present invention relates generally to various arrangements of optical and electronic components to form a high-resolution helmet mounted display (HMD) or other compact display device utilizing one or more reflective mode display devices for the generation of imagery.

A compact display device that utilizes a single reflective display device for the generation of either a single or pair of separate images.
A light source that is capable of producing the three optical primary colours (blue, green and red or yellow) and is capable of switching between them rapidly.
