Miniaturized radio frequency antenna

A method of receiving signals in the radio frequency range by a wireless hand-held device, said method comprising the steps of:

• providing means for receiving electromagnetic waves containing the signals;
• and
• providing means for effecting dielectric loading on the radiator part in order to reduce the size thereof.

An antenna operating in the radio frequency range to be used in a wireless device comprising:

• a radiator part;
• and
• a support frame having a relative permittivity in the range of 2 to 50 in the radio frequency range for effective loading on the radiator part in order to reduce the size thereof, wherein the radiator part comprises a resonating region having a helical shape implement on the support frame, and a feeding region comprising means for retrieving signals received by the resonating region and means for impedance matching.

A telephone device having communication means operating in the radio frequency range, wherein said communication means comprises:

• means for receiving electromagnetic waves containing communication signals, and
• means for effecting dielectric loading on the receiving means in order to reduce the size thereof.

A method of achieving a right-handed circularly or elliptically polarized antenna in a wireless device having a device body for mounting the antenna, wherein the phone body has four corners to define a plane having a first axis and a second axis, said method comprising the steps of:

• providing at one of the corners of the device body a radiator part to generate a first radiating mode along the first axis and a second radiating mode along the second axis such that a phase shift exists between the first radiating mode and the second radiating mode;
• and
• providing means for effecting dielectric loading on the radiator part.

A method of achieving a right-handed circularly or elliptically polarized radiation field for receiving signals in the radio frequency range by a wireless device having a device body generating a body radiation field, said method comprising the steps of:

• providing a plurality of radio frequency antennas on the device body, wherein each radio frequency antenna has a radiation pattern;
• and
• selecting one of the radio frequency antennas according to the interaction between the radiation pattern of each radio frequency antenna and the body radiation field of the device body in order to achieve an optimum performance of the circularly or elliptically polarized radiation field.
