Abstract
Systems and methods of making and using fine particle materials in pigment blends and for using the aforementioned pigment blends in paint, coating, or coloring compositions are provided. This invention further provides systems and methods of enhancing the visual appearance of a variety of substrates by introducing a paint, coating, or coloring composition to the substrate. The fine particle materials of the present invention have a substantially random geometric shape, a particle size less than about 100 microns, and help provide both functional and visual enhancing properties to compositions and substrates containing these fine particle materials.
Claims24
A pigment blend comprising:
- a plurality of particle materials made by pulverizing a solid material;
- wherein said particles materials have a substantially random geometrical shape and a particle size less than about 100 microns.
A particle material made by pulverizing a solid material, wherein said particle material has a substantially random geometrical shape and a particle size less than about 100 microns, and wherein said solid material is a brittle material.
A method of manufacturing a plurality of particle materials, having a substantially random geometrical shape and a particle size less than about 100 microns, comprising pulverizing a solid material into particle materials, and classifying said particle materials according to size.
A method of manufacturing a pigment blend comprising:
- pulverizing a solid material into a particle material having a substantially random geometrical shape;
- classifying said particle material according to size;
- and
- mixing said particle material, having a random geometric shape and a particle size less than about 100 microns, with a binder material suitable for use in a composition selected from the group consisting of paint, coloring, and coating.
A method of enhancing a visual appearance of a substrate comprising:
- making a pigment blend comprising a plurality of particle materials having a substantially random geometrical shape, and a particle size less than about 100 microns;
- and
- mixing a binder material, suitable for use in a composition selected from the group consisting of paint, coloring, and coating, with said pigment blend;
- and
- adding said composition to said substrate.
A solid material pulverizer, comprising:
- a processing chamber with an inlet and an outlet;
- a plurality of impellers positioned in said processing chamber;
- and
- a shaft extending through said processing chamber and said plurality of impellers, wherein said shaft comprises a plurality of shaft portions that are coupled by at least one coupling.
A solid material pulverizer, comprising:
- a processing chamber with an inlet and an outlet;
- a plurality of impellers positioned in said processing chamber;
- a shaft extending through said processing chamber and said plurality of impellers;
- and
- a cooling liquid that is used to cool said shaft.
A solid material pulverizer, comprising:
- a processing chamber with an inlet and an outlet;
- a plurality of baffle plates positioned in said processing chamber;
- a plurality of impellers positioned in said processing chamber;
- and
- a shaft extending through said processing chamber and said plurality of impellers, wherein said shaft comprises a threaded portion that enables said plurality of impellers to be repositioned with respect to said baffle plates.
A solid material pulverizer, comprising:
- a processing chamber with an inlet and an outlet;
- a plurality of impellers positioned in said processing chamber, wherein at least one of the plurality of impellers comprises vanes on both sides of said at least one of the plurality of impellers;
- and
- a shaft extending through said processing chamber and said plurality of impellers.
A solid material pulverizer, comprising:
- a processing chamber with an inlet and an outlet;
- a plurality of impellers positioned in said processing chamber;
- a plurality of rings positioned in said processing chamber at which said plurality of impellers project material to be pulverized, wherein at least one of said plurality of rings has an inside diameter that decreases substantially semetrically when measured from the middle toward both the top and the bottom of said at least one of said plurality of rings;
- and
- a shaft extending through said processing chamber and said plurality of impellers.
