Abstract
A method of electronically displaying a closed-figure image in order to identify a time-varying parameter, in which a predetermined time period is established for purpose of analysis, the parameter is sampled at spaced intervals throughout the predetermined time period, corresponding circumferentially spaced data points are placed in a polar diagram to represent the samples, and connecting lines are then provided between each two adjacent data points to produce the closed-figure image.
Claims8
A method of visibly displaying information that is received as a time-varying parameter so as to create a closed-figure image for the purpose of pattern recognition, comprising the steps of:
- a. measuring the parameter at spaced intervals throughout a predetermined time period so as to produce a sequence of spaced samples;
- b. establishing an essentially circular display area, having a defined center, within which to display the image;
- c. allocating the predetermined time period in precise conformance to the 360 degree circumference of the display area;
- d. allocating each sample to a different circumferential position within the display area such that the sample positions are angularly separated in accordance with their respective time spacings within the predetermined time period;
- e. for each corresponding different circumferential position within the display area, creating a data point whose radial distance from the center of the display area is proportional to the value of the corresponding sample;
- and
- f. then visibly displaying not only the data points themselves, but also lines that interconnect adjacent data points, including interconnecting the first and last data points, so as to create the closed-figure image.
A method of electronically displaying a closed-figure image in order to identify a time-varying parameter, comprising the steps of:
- establishing a predetermined time period for analysis;
- sampling the parameter at spaced intervals throughout the predetermined time period;
- displaying the samples in a polar diagram in which each sample has a corresponding circumferential position and its magnitude creates a data point at a corresponding radial distance from the center of the polar diagram;
- and
- then also providing connecting lines between each two adjacent data points to produce the closed-figure image.
