The invention concerns a method for manufacturing a prosthetic ligament for replacing a natural articular ligament, comprising between two and parts (2,2′) a median part (3) formed only by a skein of active yarn (4,11,12) advantageously in polyester, mono-filament or multi-filament with a yarn count not less than 100 decitex, longitudinal, adjacent and not transversely linked between them characterized in that previous to the mounting of the ligament (1) a longitudinal twist is given to each active yam, clockwise or anti-clockwise, for forming a prosthetic ligament (1) for right articulation and left articulation respectively, the ends of said yarn (4,11,12) being maintained together by all appropriate means over a sufficient width for constituting the ends parts (2,2′) of said prosthetic ligament (1). The invention also concerns the left articulating or right articulating ligament thus obtained.
Method of producing a prosthetic ligament to replace a natural joint ligament, comprising between two end parts (2,2′) a median part (3) formed solely of a bundle of active strands (4,11,12) advantageously in mono or multi-filament polyester with a decitex value of 1200 or less, that are longitudinal, adjacent and unconnected to another in crosswise direction, characterised in that prior to the assembly of ligament (1) longitudinal torsion is imparted to each active strand (4,11,12) whose direction of torsion is chosen, clockwise or anti-clockwise, to form respectively a prosthetic ligament (1) for a right or left joint, the ends of said strands (4,11,12) being held together by any appropriate means over a distance that is sufficient to form the end parts (2,2′) of said prosthetic ligament (1).
Method in accordance with the preceding claim, characterised in that torsion is imparted to each active strand (4,11,12) such that the resulting torque creates natural coiling of at least one eighth of a turn between the two ends of median portion (3) of ligament (1).
Method in accordance with any of the preceding claims using strands (4) that are monofilament or made up of several parallel filaments, characterised in that the torsion of each active strand (4) is obtained by axial unwinding of strand (4) by its free end (7) from a fixed spool (8) whose direction of winding determines the direction of torsion.
Method in accordance with the preceding claim, characterised in that each cable cord (13) is torsion-mounted that is to say that the constituent threads (11,12) are twisted in a left or right spiral to give the cable cord (13) a natural torsion (S,Z) in clockwise direction (S) or anti-clockwise direction (Z) to determine respectively a ligament for right joint or left joint.
Ligament in accordance with the preceding claim, characterised in that end parts (2,2′) of fabric width (6) comprising a weft assembly are of sufficient length to be embedded in the bone insertion tunnels of the joint, and that median portion (3) comprising cable cords (13) or strands (4) unconnected in transverse direction is advantageously of the same length as the intra-articular portion of the natural ligament (1).
