Abstract
A multidiagnostic rectilinear scanner for conducting non-invasive diagnostic procedures of bodily tissue. Both transmission and emission studies are performed on a single scanner utilizing software modules for each kind of study. Dual energy x-ray and radioactive sources are used to perform radiographic and absorptiometry transmission measurements. A system and method of identifying regions of interest within tissue being scanned and recording the location of those regions provides an additional diagnostic capability.
Claims18
A rectlinear scanner for identifying and scanning tissue comprising:
- a rectilinear scanner;
- a detector secured to the scanner for sensing radiation from a source;
- an imaging system that receives signals from the detector during scanning and forms an image of the scanned tissue;
- an indicator secured to the detector for identifying a portion of tissue being scanned;
- and
- a data processor for recording the location of the identified portion relative to an imaged area.
A method of identifying and scanning a region of tissue comprising:
- determining a portion of tissue to be scanned and imaged;
- recording a position of a region within the portion of tissue in a memory;
- scanning the portion of tissue with a detector to form an image of the tissue;
- locating the recorded position on the formed image;
- and
- determining a diagnostic characteristic of the region of tissue located within the formed image.
A method of identifying and scanning a region of tissue comprising:
- scanning a portion of tissue with a rectlinear scanner;
- recording information generated by a detector secured to the scanner during the scan;
- forming an image of the portion of tissue with the recorded information;
- identifying a region within the image formed of the scanned portion;
- and
- recording the location of the identified region within a memory.
