Abstract
A conditioner unit is wired in parallel with a pair gain test controller used to test a digital loop carrier telephone network. The conditioner unit senses a signal intended to request test results from the pair gain test controller and provides a response signal which indicates that the pair gain test controller performed a successful test, even though the pair gain test controller was not activated. This allows testing of the network without use of a bypass pair or the need to interface the digital loop carrier network with the pair gain test controller.
Claims20
In a telephone system having a test unit and a pair gain test controller, the test unit communicating with the pair gain test controller via trunk tip, trunk ring and trunk sleeve lines, the pair gain test controller outputting a sleeve line, the test unit requesting test results from the pair gain test controller by setting the trunk sleeve line to a zero current state,
- a conditioner unit for responding to the test unit in place of the pair gain test controller, the conditioner unit comprising:
- means for sensing the zero current state on the sleeve line and providing a control signal in response thereto;
- and
- switching means, responsive to the control signal, for switching an output signal onto the trunk ring line.
In a telephone system having a digital loop carrier (DLC) network and test equipment, the DLC network including a central office line unit (COLU) and the test equipment including a test unit and a pair gain test controller (PGTC) which, under control of the test unit is intended to test a subscriber's line, a method of testing the subscriber's line while keeping the PGTC idle, the method comprising:
- in response to the PGTC seeking to connect to the COLU to perform testing, holding the PGTC in a wait state;
- using the DLC network to test the subscriber's line;
- providing a signal from the COLU which is interpreted by the test unit as meaning that the PGTC is ready to proceed with testing;
- sensing a signal from the test unit which indicates that the test unit is seeking test results from the PGTC;
- and
- while the PGTC continues to be in the wait state, providing a response signal to the test unit which indicates that the PGTC performed a successful test on the subscriber's line.
In a telephone system having a test unit and a pair gain test controller, the test unit communicating with the pair gain test controller via trunk tip, trunk ring and trunk sleeve lines and requesting test results from the pair gain test controller by setting the trunk sleeve line to a zero current state, a conditioner unit for responding to the test unit in place of the pair gain test controller, the conditioner unit comprising a switching circuit which senses the zero current state on a sleeve line output from the pair gain test controller and in response thereto switches an output signal onto the trunk ring line.
