Abstract
In accordance with the present invention, a carriage assembly for carrying read/write heads into engagement with a recording medium is provided. The carriage assembly comprises a carriage body. The body defines a sidewall having a first open end and a second open end with a passage extending therebetween. A coil is interlockingly coupled with the carriage body sidewall. At least one carriage arm for carrying at least one head is interlockingly coupled with the carriage body sidewall.
Claims52
A carriage assembly for carrying read/write heads into engagement with a recording medium, said carriage assembly comprising:
- a carriage body, said body defining a sidewall having a first open end and a second open end with a passage extending therebetween, said passage adapted to slidingly receive a guide track;
- a coil interlockingly coupled with said carriage body sidewall;
- and
- at least one carriage arm interlockingly coupled with said carriage body sidewall.
A carriage assembly for carrying read/write heads into engagement with a recording medium, said carriage assembly comprising:
- a carriage body, said body having a sidewall;
- and
- a coil interlockingly coupled with the sidewall.
A carriage assembly for carrying read/write heads into engagement with a recording medium, said carriage assembly comprising:
- a carriage body, said body having a sidewall;
- and
- at least one carriage arm, said arm interlockingly coupled with said carriage body sidewall.
A carriage assembly for carrying read/write heads into engagement with a recording medium, said carriage assembly comprising:
- carriage body, said body having a sidewall that defines a first open end and a second open end with a passage therebetween;
- and
- at least one bearing interlockingly coupled proximate said first open end.
The carriage assembly produced by the process comprising the following steps:
- positioning a coil within a mold;
- positioning at least one carriage arm within the mold;
- injecting a material around a portion of said coil and carriage arm to form a carriage body having a sidewall as the material hardens such that the coil and carriage arm are interlockingly coupled with said carriage body sidewall.
The carriage assembly produced by the process in 31 further comprising the steps of:
- positioning a first bearing within said mold;
- and
- injecting said material around a portion of said coil, carriage arm, and bearing to form a carriage body having a sidewall having a first open end and a second open end with a passage therebetween as the material hardens such that the coil and carriage arm are interlockingly coupled with said carriage body sidewall and said first bearing is interlockingly coupled with said sidewall proximate said first open end.
The carriage assembly produced by the process in 30, wherein said mold is an injection mold and said material is injection molded into the injection mold.
The carriage assembly produced by the process comprising the following steps:
- positioning a coil within a mold;
- and
- injecting a material around a portion of said coil to form a carriage body having a sidewall as the material hardens such that the coil is interlockingly coupled with said carriage body sidewall.
The carriage assembly produced by the process in 37 further comprising:
- positioning a first bearing within said mold;
The carriage assembly produced by the process in 36, wherein said mold is an injection mold and said material is injection molded into the injection mold.
The carriage assembly produced by the process comprising the following steps:
- positioning at least one carriage arm within a mold;
- and
- injecting a material around a portion of said carriage arm to form a carriage body having a sidewall as the material hardens such that the carriage arm is interlockingly coupled with said carriage body sidewall.
The carriage assembly produced by the process comprising the steps of:
- positioning at least one bearing within a mold;
- and
- injecting a material around at least a portion of said bearing to form a carriage body having a sidewall having a first open end and a second open end with a passage extending therebetween as the material hardens such that said bearing is interlockingly coupled with said sidewall proximate said first open end.
A carriage arm comprising:
- an elongated body, said body having a proximal end and distal, said distal end adapted to securely receive a load beam, said proximal end adapted to be coupled to at least a carriage body, said elongated body defining a bead between said first end and second end.
