Abstract
System for compression of digital images comprising background pixels.
Claims20
An apparatus for compressing a digital image comprising pixels having a first value, said compression apparatus comprising:
- (a) means for decomposing said digital image into a set of tiles;
- and
- (b) means for compressing each tile from said set of tiles, wherein said compressing means responsive to a binary tile from said set of tiles, said binary tile comprising pixels having a background value and pixels having one other value, to generate a first and an associated second set of data, said first set of data comprising spatial location information for substantially all pixels in said binary tile having said background value and said second set of data comprising data representative of a compressed second tile, each pixel in said second tile having said one other value.
In a computing system, apparatus adapted to compress a digital image, said digital image comprising at least one binary tile, said at least one binary tile comprising pixels having a background value and one other value, said apparatus comprising:
- (a) a means for storing said digital image;
- (b) a control unit adapted to access said digital image from said storing means and to generate compressed data representative of said digital image, said compressed data having a first portion representative of said at least one binary tile, said first portion comprised of a first set of data indicating spatial locations of said pixels having said background value and a second set of data representative of a compressed monotone tile comprised of pixels having said one other value.
A method to generate compressed data representative of a tile from a digital image, said method comprising:
- (a) determining if said tile comprises pixels having a background value and one other value and if said tile classifies as a binary tile;
- and if so then;
- (b) first generating a first set of data representative of a compressed monotone tile comprised of pixels having said one other value;
- and
- (c) second generating a second set of data indicating spatial locations of each pixel in said tile having said background value.
