Abstract
A copper pipe (1) has a circumferential groove (2) formed in an outer wall to receive an O-ring seal (3). The groove (2) is formed a pre-set distance from a free end (5) of the pipe (1). Two pipe lengths are jointed together by a coupling (10) having a housing (11) with pipe seal-receiving seats (15) at each end for receiving the O-ring seal (3) fitted to the pipe (1). Caps (14) screw threadingly engage the housing (11) to clamp the pipe lengths (1) in the housing (11). The fitting can be pre-assembled and used as a push-in fitting with a subsequent tightening by hand.
