Abstract
A medical device delivery system is disclosed which has a distal inner sheath and a distal outer sheath covering a medical device mounting region and any medical device mounted thereon. The outer sheath is designed to retain the medical device for lengthy periods of time while the inner sheath is designed to retain the sheath for shorter periods of time.

A medical device delivery system having a proximal end and a distal end comprising:
- an inner tube having a distal region and a proximal region, the inner tube having a medical device mounting region at the distal region for concentrically mounting a medical device thereon;
- a distal inner sheath attached to the inner tube at the distal region, the distal inner sheath concentrically disposed about the inner tube and covering at least a portion of the medical device mounting region,
- a distal outer sheath, concentrically disposed about the inner tube, at least a portion of the outer sheath disposed about at least a portion of the inner sheath;
- and
- an outer sheath retraction device having a distal end and a proximal end, the outer sheath retraction device extending proximally from the distal outer sheath.
A medical device delivery system having a proximal end and a distal end comprising:
- an inner tube having a distal region and a proximal region, the inner tube having a medical device mounting region at the distal region for concentrically mounting a medical device thereon;
- a distal inner sheath attached to the inner tube at the distal region, the distal inner sheath concentrically disposed about the inner tube and covering at least a portion of the medical device mounting region,
- a distal outer sheath, concentrically disposed about the inner tube, at least a portion of the outer sheath disposed about at least a portion of the inner sheath;
- and
- an outer sheath retraction means for retracting the outer sheath, the distal outer sheath extending from the distal end of the retraction means.
A medical device delivery system having a proximal end and a distal end comprising:
- an inner tube with a distal region and a proximal region, the inner tube having a medical device mounting region at the distal region for concentrically mounting a medical device thereon;
- a distal inner sheath concentrically disposed about the inner tube and covering at least a portion of the medical device mounting region;
- a inner sheath retraction device having a distal end and a proximal end, the inner sheath retraction device extending proximally from the distal inner sheath;
- a distal outer sheath, concentrically disposed about the inner tube, at least a portion of the outer sheath disposed about at least a portion of the inner sheath;
- and
- a outer sheath retraction device having a distal end and a proximal end, the outer sheath retraction device extending proximally the distal outer sheath.
The medical device delivery system of claim 24 wherein the stent is self-expandable.
A medical device delivery system having a proximal end and a distal end comprising:
- an inner tube with a distal region and a proximal region, the inner tube having a medical device mounting region at the distal region for concentrically mounting a medical device thereon;
- a distal inner sheath concentrically disposed about the inner tube and covering at least a portion of the medical device mounting region;
- a inner sheath retraction means for retracting the inner sheath, the inner sheath retraction means extending proximally from the inner sheath;
- a distal outer sheath, concentrically disposed about the inner tube, at least a portion of the outer sheath disposed about at least a portion of the inner sheath;
- and
- a outer sheath retraction device having a distal end and a proximal end, the outer sheath retraction device extending proximally from the distal outer sheath.
A medical device delivery system having a proximal and a distal end comprising:
- an inner tube with a distal region and a proximal region, the inner tube having a medical device mounting region at the distal region for concentrically mounting a medical device thereon;
- a distal inner sheath concentrically disposed about the inner tube and covering at least a portion of the medical device mounting region,
- an inner sheath retraction device having a distal end and a proximal end and operably associated with the distal inner sheath, the inner sheath retraction device extending proximally from the distal inner sheath;
- and
- a distal outer sheath, concentrically disposed about the inner sheath, and contacting the inner sheath, the distal outer sheath extending proximally from the distal region of the inner tube, the distal outer sheath removable by sliding it in a distal direction.
A medical device delivery system having a proximal and a distal end comprising:
- an inner tube with a distal region and a proximal region, the inner tube having a medical device mounting region at the distal region for concentrically mounting a medical device thereon;
- a distal inner sheath concentrically disposed about the inner tube and covering at least a portion of the medical device mounting region,
- an inner sheath retraction means for retracting the inner sheath, the retraction means operably associated with the distal inner sheath and extending proximally from the distal inner sheath;
- and
- a distal outer sheath, concentrically disposed about the inner sheath, and contacting the inner sheath, the distal outer sheath extending proximally from the distal region of the inner tube, the distal outer sheath removable by sliding it in a distal direction.
In a stent delivery system comprising a first sheath carried over a stent, the improvement being a second sheath carried over the first sheath, the first sheath constructed to be less creep resistant than the second sheath.
