An apparatus for bracing a plurality of vertebrae of the human spine, comprising:
- at least two pedicle screws (16, 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d) having an annular head (34a, 34b, 34c, 34d) including a slot (36, 36b) which extends into the opening and including internal thread portions, a securing screw (38, 38a, 38b, 38d) to be screwed in said slot, a relatively stiff threaded rod 14 to be inserted into the opening in the head of the pedic le screws and secured by said securing screws, and adjusting nuts (18, 18a, 40) screwed on said rod (14) and cooperating with said head (34, 34b, 34c, 72).
An apparatus for bracing a plurality of vertebrae of the human spine, said apparatus comprising:
- (a) at least a first pedicle screw and a second pedicle screw having, respectively, a first shaft and a first annular head with a first opening therewithin and a first slot which extends into said first opening and including a first internal threaded portion,
- and a second shaft and a second annular head with a second opening therewithin and a second slot which extends into said second opening and including a second internal threaded portion;
- (b) a first securing screw to be screwed into said first slot and a second securing screw to be screwed into said second slot;
- (c) a relatively stiff threaded rod to be inserted into said first opening in said first annular head of said first pedicle screw and into said second opening in said second annular head of said second pedicle screw and to be secured therewithin by a first securing screw and second securing screw, respectively;
- and
- (d) at least one first adjusting nut to be screwed onto said threaded rod and for cooperating with said first annular head and at least one second adjusting nut to be screwed onto said threaded rod and for cooperating with said second annular head.
