Pressure-resistant glass body (3) comprising two hemispheres (1, 2), with or without a cylindrical intermediate element (10), with matching surfaces (4) which are brought into contact with one another, with the result that the outer surfaces are smooth and flush at a seam, the glass parts being connected to one another in a non-releasable manner at said matching surfaces (4) by adhesive bonding using a curing adhesive. The adhesive-bonding seam (6), which is produced for example by a light-curing or heat-curing adhesive, may be covered by a permanently elastic sealing compound and then by a tape. The glass bodies according to the invention are distinguished by straightforward production and a high level of operational reliability for oceanographic use.
A pressure-resistant glass body (3) comprising two hemispheres (1, 2) with matching surfaces which are brought into contact with one another, with the result that the outer surfaces are smooth and flush at a seam around an equator and form a sphere, wherein the two hemispheres (1, 2) are connected to one another between the matching contact surfaces (4, 4′) by an adhesive-bonding layer consisting of a curing adhesive.
The pressure-resistant glass body as claimed in one or more of the preceding claims, wherein the adhesive-bonding layers are resistant to sea water.
The pressure-resistant glass body as claimed in one or more of the preceding claims, wherein the glass body is pressure-resistant up to 700 bar.
The pressure-resistant glass body as claimed in one or more of the preceding claims, wherein the wall thickness of the glass body is in a range between 7 and 20 mm.
The pressure-resistant glass body as claimed in one or more of the preceding claims, wherein the diameter of the glass body is in a range between 200 and 600 mm.
A method of assembling a pressure-resistant glass body comprising two hemispheres, the two hemispheres being placed on one another such that their outer surfaces are smooth and flush at a seam around the equator, wherein the contact surfaces of the two hemispheres are adhesively bonded to one another by an adhesive.
The method as claimed in one or more of the preceding claims, wherein the adhesive-bonding connections are made to be resistant to sea water.
The method as claimed in one or more of the preceding claims, wherein the glass body is made to be pressure-resistant up to 700 bar.
The method as claimed in one or more of the preceding claims, wherein a range between 7 and 20 mm is selected for the wall thickness of the glass body.
The method as claimed in one or more of the preceding claims, wherein a range between 200 and 600 mm is selected as the diameter of the glass body.
The method as claimed in one or more of the preceding claims, wherein bores are provided in the outer wall of the glass body as lead-throughs, preferably for connectors, bushings and valves.
The use of a pressure-resistant glass body as claimed in one or more of the preceding claims as a buoyancy sphere for oceanographic systems.
The use of a pressure-resistant glass body as claimed in one or more of the preceding claims for oceanographic purposes to a depth of 7000 m.
