Abstract
A total hip prosthesis comprises a cotyloid implant consisting of a metal cup to be anchored in the acetabulum, a polyethylene insert which provides an intermediate implant inserted into the cavity of the cup, and a femoral implant consisting of a cap having an outer convex surface which is slidably postionable within the insert cavity. An inner concave surface of the femoral implant is implantable on the head of the femur. The prosthesis is particularly suitable for endo-articular implantation.
Claims20
Total hip prosthesis comprising:
- a cotyloid implant (15) constituted by a metallic cup provided with primary anchoring means (15a, 16) for anchoring said cup in an acetabulum (C) and having externally an overall convex surface and internally a generally concave recess,
- an insert (17) forming an intermediate implant provided with connection means (17a, 15c) with the cup (15), the insert having on one side a surface having a shape complementary to the recess of the cup in which the insert is received and on another side a concave bearing recess, and
- a metallic femoral implant (20) comprising a cap having a convex surface for coming into sliding contact with the concave bearing recess of the insert (17), a concave surface adapted to be implanted on spongy bone of a femoral head (T), and a means for positioning the femoral implant on the femoral head through use of a removable ancillary instrument (18) insertable through a trochanter (G) of the hip, wherein at least one of the implants (15, 17, 20) comprises at a periphery thereof a local coupling means (15d, 20c), to permit removable coupling of said at least one implant to a carrying arm (4) to introduce said implant through lateral access route into an articular space, without dislocating the articulation.
Ancillary device for endo-articular implantation of a total hip prosthesis comprising:
- a cotyloid implant (15) constituted by a metallic cup provided with primary anchoring means (15a, 16) for anchoring said cup in an acetabulum (C) and having externally an overall convex surface and internally a generally concave recess,
- an insert (17) forming an intermediate implant provided with connection means (17a, 15c) with the cup (15), the insert having on one side a surface having a shape complementary to the recess of the cup in which the insert is received and on another side a concave bearing recess, and
- a metallic femoral implant (20) comprising a cap having a convex surface for coming into sliding contact with the concave bearing recess of the insert (17) and a concave surface adapted to be implanted on spongy bone of a femoral head (T), wherein at least one of the implants (15, 17, 20) comprises at a periphery thereof a local coupling means (15d, 20c), to permit removable coupling of said at least one implant to a carrying arm (4) to introduce said implant through lateral access route into an articular space, without dislocating the articulation,
- a plurality of instruments (6, 12, 18, 24) adapted to be introduced along an axis of a femoral neck (CF) from a trochanter base region (G) toward a coxo-femoral articular space,
- said carrying arm (4) having support means at a distal end (4b) thereof for a removable coupling to said local coupling means at the periphery of said at least one implant (15, 17, 20) or to local coupling means (5a, 11a) at a periphery of a drill (5, 11) to introduce said implant or drill through a lateral access route into the articular space, and
- a support structure (1) having at a lower end (3a) a first sleeve adapted to hold at least one of the plurality of instruments, the support structure having at an upper end (2a) a second sleeve adapted to hold the carrying arm (4) slidably and inclinably to engage the implant or the drill on a distal end (6a, 12a, 18a) of one of said instruments introduced into the articular space.
