C11D) - A61Q: SPECIFIC USE OF COSMETICS OR SIMILAR TOILETRY PREPARATIONS ## Abstract The present invention is direct to a hair care composition comprising from about 8 to about 17% of one or more surfactants; from about 0.1-0.25% of salicylate salts or acids; from about 0.1-0.25% of benzoate salts or acids wherein there is a weight ratio of about 1:1 to 2.5:1 for the salicylate salts or acids to sodium benzoate salts or acids. ## Claims ### Claim 1 A hair care composition comprising: a. from about 10 to about 17%, by total weight of the composition, of one or more surfactants wherein the one or more surfactants are free of sulfate-based surfactants; b. from about 0.1-0.25%, by total weight of the composition, of one or more salicylate salts or acids; c. from about 0.1-0.25%, by total weight of the composition, of one of more benzoate salts or acids wherein there is a weight ratio of about 1:1 to 2.5:1 for the one or more salicylate salts or acids to one or more benzoate salts or acids. ### Claim 2 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 where the one or more salicylate salts or acids is from about 0.1 to 0.2%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 3 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the one or more salicylate salts or acids is from about 0.1 to 0.18%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 4 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the one or more salicylate salts or acids is sodium salicylate. ### Claim 5 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the one or more benzoate salts or acids is sodium benzoate. ### Claim 6 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the one or more benzoate salts or acids is from about 0.1 to 0.2%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 7 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the one or more benzoate salts or acids is from about 0.1 to 0.18%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 8 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein there is a weight ratio of about 1:1 to 2:1 of the one or more salicylate salts or acids to the one or more benzoate salts or acids. ### Claim 9 (depends on 1) A hair car composition according to claim 1 wherein there is a weight ratio of about 1:1 to 1.5:1 of the one or more salicylate salts or acids to the one or more benzoate salts or acids. ### Claim 10 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein there is a weight ratio of about 1:0.9 to 2:1 of the one or more salicylate salts or acids to the one or more benzoate salts or acids. ### Claim 11 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein there is a weight ratio of about 1:0.8 to 2:1 of the one or more salicylate salts or acids to the one or more benzoate salts or acids. ### Claim 12 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein there is a weight ratio of about 1:0.75 to 2:1 of the one or more salicylate salts or acids to the one or more benzoate salts or acids. ### Claim 13 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein there is a weight ratio of about 1:0.8 to 1.5:1 of the one or more salicylate salts or acids to the one or more benzoate salts or acids. ### Claim 14 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the composition has a pH less than or equal to about 6. ### Claim 15 (depends on 14) A hair care composition according to claim 14 wherein the pH of the composition is greater than 4.5 and less than about 6. ### Claim 16 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the composition provides a net change in bacteria log reduction of 0.5 or greater in comparison to an unpreserved control. ### Claim 17 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the composition provides a net change in yeast and/or mold log reduction of 0.5 or greater in comparison to an unpreserved control. ### Claim 18 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the composition provides a net change in bacteria log reduction of 0.5 or greater and yeast and/or mold log reduction of 0.5 or greater in comparison to an unpreserved control. ### Claim 19 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the composition provides a net change in bacteria log reduction of 0.5 or greater in comparison to an unpreserved control at the 2-day timepoint. ### Claim 20 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the composition provides a net change in yeast and/or mold log reduction of 0.5 or greater in comparison to an unpreserved control at the 7-day timepoint. ### Claim 21 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the composition provides a net change in bacteria log reduction of 0.5 or greater in comparison to an unpreserved control at the 2-day timepoint and yeast and/or mold log reduction of 0.5 or greater in comparison to an unpreserved control at the 7-day timepoint. ### Claim 22 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the composition further comprising one or more soluble antidandruff agents. ### Claim 23 (depends on 22) A hair care composition according to claim 22 wherein the one or more soluble antidandruff agents is hydroxyl pyridone. ### Claim 24 (depends on 23) A hair care composition according to claim 23 wherein the hydroxyl pyridone is piroctone olamine. ### Claim 25 (depends on 22) A hair care composition according to claim 22 wherein the one or more soluble antidandruff agents is an azole. ### Claim 26 (depends on 25) A hair care composition according to claim 25 wherein the azole is climbazole. ### Claim 27 (depends on 22) A hair care composition according to claim 22 wherein the one or more soluble antidandruff agents is from about 0.01% to about 10%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 28 (depends on 22) A hair care composition according to claim 22 wherein the one or more soluble antidandruff agents is from about 0.02% to about 8%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 29 (depends on 22) A hair care composition according to claim 22 wherein the one or more soluble antidandruff agent is from about 0.05% to 5%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 30 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the one or more surfactants is an anionic surfactant or combinations of anionic surfactants. ### Claim 31 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein the one or more surfactants is a surfactant or combinations of surfactants that is selected from the group consisting of amino acid based anionic surfactants, sulfosuccinates, isethionates, sulfonates, sulfoacetates, sulfolaurates, glucose carboxylates, alkyl ether carboxylates, taurates, lactates and lactylates. ### Claim 32 (depends on 31) A hair care composition according to claim 31 wherein the one or more surfactants is a surfactant or combinations of surfactants that is selected from the group consisting of anionic alkyl and alkyl ether sulfosuccinates, dialkyl and dialkyl ether sulfosuccinates, sodium lauroyl methyl isethionate, sodium cocoyl isethionate, ammonium cocoyl isethionate, sodium hydrogenated cocoyl methyl isethionate, sodium lauroyl isethionate, sodium cocoyl methyl isethionate, sodium myristoyl isethionate, sodium oleoyl isethionate, sodium oleyl methyl isethionate, sodium palm kerneloyl isethionate, sodium stearoyl methyl isethionate, alpha olefin sulfonates, linear alkylbenzene sulfonates, alkyl glyceryl sulfonates, sodium laurylglucosides hydroxypropylsulfonate, sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, ammonium lauryl sulfoacetate, sodium methyl cocoyl taurate, sodium methyl lauroyl taurate, sodium caproyl methyltaurate, sodium methyl oleoyl taurate, sodium cocoyl taurate, sodium lauroyl taurate and sodium caproyl taurate. ### Claim 33 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein one or more surfactants is present from about 10% to about 16%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 34 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein one or more surfactants is present from about 10% to about 15%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 35 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein one or more surfactants is present from about 10% to about 14%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 36 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 wherein one or more surfactants is present from about 10% to about 13%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 37 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 further comprising from about 0.25% to about 15%, by total weight of the composition, of one or more amphoteric, nonionic or zwitterionic co-surfactants. ### Claim 38 (depends on 37) A hair care composition according to claim 37 wherein the one or more amphoteric, nonionic or zwitterionic co-surfactants is selected from the group consisting of betaines, lauramidopropyl betaine, cocamidopropyl betaine, coco-betaine, cetyl betaine, lauryl hydroxysultaine, sodium lauroamphoacetate, disodium cocoamphodiacetate, cocamide monoethanolamide, sultaines, hydroxysultaines, amphohydroxypropyl sulfonates, alkyl amphoacetates, alkyl polyglucosides and mixtures thereof. ### Claim 39 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 further comprising one or more cationic polymers selected from the group consisting of a cationic guar polymer, a cationic non-guar galactomannan polymer, a cationic tapioca polymer, a cationic copolymer of acrylamide monomers and cationic monomers, a synthetic, non-crosslinked, cationic polymer, which may or may not form lyotropic liquid crystals upon combination with the detersive surfactant, a cationic cellulose polymer and mixtures thereof. ### Claim 40 (depends on 39) A hair care composition according to claim 39 wherein the one or more cationic polymer is selected from the group consisting of guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, salts of hydroxyethyl cellulose reacted with trimethyl ammonium substituted epoxide, a cationic copolymer of acrylamide monomers and cationic monomers, a synthetic, non-crosslinked, cationic polymer, which may or may not form lyotropic liquid crystals upon combination with the detersive surfactant. ### Claim 41 (depends on 39) A hair care composition according to claim 39 wherein the one or more cationic polymers is from about 0.08% to about 3%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 42 (depends on 39) A hair care composition according to claim 39 wherein the one of more cationic polymers is from about 0.1% to about 2%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 43 (depends on 39) A hair care composition according to claim 39 wherein the one of more cationic polymers is from about 0.2% to about 1%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 44 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 further comprising from about 0.01% to about 10%, by total weight of the composition, of one or more thickening polymer. ### Claim 45 (depends on 44) A hair care composition according to claim 44 wherein the one or more thickening polymer is selected from the group consisting of homopolymers based on acrylic acid, homopolymers based on methacrylic acid, derivatives of homopolymers of acrylic acid, derivatives of homopolymers of methacrylic acid, alkali swellable acrylic copolymers, hydrophobically-modified alkali swellable acrylic copolymers, alkali swellable methacrylate copolymers, hydrophobically-modified alkali swellable methacrylate copolymers, soluble crosslinked acrylic polymers, associative polymeric thickeners and mixtures thereof. ### Claim 46 (depends on 1) A hair care composition according to claim 1 further comprising one or more scalp health agents. ### Claim 47 (depends on 46) A hair care composition according to claim 46 wherein one or more scalp health agents is selected from the group consisting of sulfur, menthol, menthyl lactate and mixtures thereof. ### Claim 48 (depends on 46) A hair care composition according to claim 46 wherein the one or more scalp health agents is polyvalent metal salts of pyrithione. ### Claim 49 (depends on 48) A hair care composition according to claim 48 wherein the one or more scalp health agents is zinc pyrithione. ### Claim 50 (depends on 46) A hair care composition according to claim 46 wherein the one or more scalp health agents is from about 0.01% to 10%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 51 (depends on 46) A hair care composition according to claim 46 wherein the one or more scalp health agents is from about 0.05% to 9%, by total weight of the composition. ### Claim 52 (depends on 46) A hair care composition according to claim 46 wherein the one or more scalp health agents is from about 0.1% to 8%, by total weight of the composition.
