Abstract
A host mobile device and a mobile device cover for use with the host mobile device are configured to set up the mobile device cover to be used as a specific lighting device. The host mobile device runs a mobile application that provides a graphical user interface that is used to configure the host mobile device and/or the mobile device cover as one or more of the following: a flashlight, a reading light, a selfie light, a panic alert, and a clock.
Claims27
A physical mobile phone, comprising:
- one or more hardware processors and memory configured to:
- provide a graphical user interface configured to select one or more graphical elements to set up a separate, external, and physical mobile phone cover to light up according to a selected light pattern, wherein:
- the mobile phone cover is not part of but is communicatively coupled to the mobile phone via a wireless communication interface,
- the graphical user interface is capable of providing a first preview of the selected light pattern on a display of the mobile phone,
- the graphical user interface is capable of configuring the first preview with a design and an animation according to the selected light pattern, and
- the graphical user interface is capable of concurrently providing a second preview of the selected light pattern on the mobile phone cover while the first preview is displayed on the display of the mobile phone;
- the graphical user interface is configured to set up an alert;
- cause the mobile phone cover to light up according to the selected light pattern, wherein the mobile phone cover comprises wireless communication capabilities to independently retrieve and display media from external sources while physically separated from the mobile phone and without requiring the mobile phone to process or provide the media;
- and
- receive media content that resides on memory storage of the mobile phone cover.

A physical mobile phone cover for use with a separate, external, and physical mobile phone, comprising:
- memory storage configured to store media content for playing or displaying on one or both of the mobile phone cover and the mobile phone;
- and
- one or more hardware processors and a wireless communication interface configured to:
- receive information from a graphical user interface operating on the mobile phone relating to setting up the mobile phone cover to light up according to a selected pattern, wherein:
- the mobile phone cover is not part of but is communicatively coupled to the mobile phone,
- the graphical user interface is capable of providing a first preview of the selected light pattern on a display of the mobile phone,
- the graphical user interface is capable of configuring the first preview with a design and an animation according to the selected light pattern,
- the graphical user interface is configured to set up an alert, and
- the graphical user interface is capable of concurrently providing a second preview of the selected light pattern on the mobile phone cover while the first preview is displayed on the display of the mobile phone;
- receive information from the mobile phone that causes the mobile phone cover to light up according to the selected pattern;
- and
- independently retrieve and display media from external sources while physically separated from the mobile phone and without requiring the mobile phone to process or provide the media.
