## CPC

- H04N 19/70: characterised by syntax aspects related to video coding, e.g. related to compression standards
- H04N 19/172: the region being a picture, frame or field
- H04N 19/174: the region being a slice, e.g. a line of blocks or a group of blocks
- H04N 19/188: {the unit being a video data packet, e.g. a network abstraction layer [NAL] unit}
- H04N 19/44: Decoders specially adapted therefor, e.g. video decoders which are asymmetric with respect to the encoder
- H04N 19/46: Embedding additional information in the video signal during the compression process (H04N19/517, H04N19/68, H04N19/70 take precedence)
- H04N: PICTORIAL COMMUNICATION, e.g. TELEVISION

## Abstract

A method of decoding is provided. The method includes receiving a picture unit (PU) including zero or one picture header (PH) network abstraction layer (NAL) unit and only one coded picture; and decoding the only one coded picture from the PU to obtain a decoded picture. A corresponding method of encoding is also provided. The method includes generating a PU including zero or one PH NAL units and only one coded picture; encoding the PU into a video bitstream; and storing the video bitstream for communication toward a video decoder.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause a video processing apparatus to:
receive a picture unit (PU) including only one coded picture, wherein the PU comprises a set of network abstraction layer (NAL) units that contains zero picture header (PH) NAL units; and
decode the only one coded picture from the PU to obtain a decoded picture.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein the PU includes one or more video coding layer (VCL) NAL units.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein the PU includes one or more non-video coding layer (VCL) NAL units.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein the only one coded picture comprises one or more slices each including a slice header, and wherein each of the one or more slices is disposed in a video coding layer (VCL) NAL unit.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein the PU includes decoding capability information (DCI) disposed in a DCI NAL unit.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein the PU includes a video parameter set (VPS) disposed in a VPS NAL unit.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein the PU includes a sequence parameter set (SPS) disposed in a SPS NAL unit and a picture parameter set (PPS) disposed in a PPS NAL unit.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein the instructions cause the video processing apparatus to display the decoded picture on a display of an electronic device.

### Claim 9

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause a video processing apparatus to:
generate a picture unit (PU) including only one coded picture, wherein the PU comprises a set of network abstraction layer (NAL) units that contains zero picture header (PH) NAL units; and
encode the PU into a video bitstream.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein the PU includes one or more video coding layer (VCL) NAL units.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein the PU includes one or more non-video coding layer (VCL) NAL units.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein the only one coded picture comprises one or more slices each including a slice header, and wherein each of the one or more slices is disposed in a video coding layer (VCL) NAL unit.

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein the PU includes decoding capability information (DCI) disposed in a DCI NAL unit.
