Abstract
Methods, systems, and apparatuses for improved content delivery are described herein. During delivery of content to one or more user devices of a content distribution network (CDN), a content session may be created for each user device. During each content session, each user device may send one or more upstream communications, such as heartbeat signals and bitrate requests, to the CDN. A monitoring module of the CDN may aggregate the upstream communications into session data. The monitoring module may use the session data to determine an impairment associated with content delivery to the one or more user devices.
Claims32
A method comprising:
- receiving, from a first computing device, a first quantity of communications indicating at least one change in a bitrate associated with a first content item;
- receiving, from a second computing device, a second quantity of communications indicating at least one change in a bitrate associated with a second content item;
- determining, based on a difference between the first quantity of communications and the second quantity of communications, an impairment associated with one of the first computing device receiving the first content item or the second computing device receiving the second content item;
- and
- determining, based on the impairment, at least one source of the impairment.
One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing processor-executable instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
- receive, from a first computing device, a first quantity of communications indicating at least one change in a bitrate associated with a first content item;
- receive, from a second computing device, a second quantity of communications indicating at least one change in a bitrate associated with a second content item;
- determine, based on a difference between the first quantity of communications and the second quantity of communications, an impairment associated with one of the first computing device receiving the first content item or the second computing device receiving the second content item;
- and
- determine, based on the impairment, at least one source of the impairment.
An apparatus comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- memory storing processor-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the apparatus to:
- receive, from a first computing device, a first quantity of communications indicating at least one change in a bitrate associated with a first content item;
- receive, from a second computing device, a second quantity of communications indicating at least one change in a bitrate associated with a second content item;
- determine, based on a difference between the first quantity of communications and the second quantity of communications, an impairment associated with one of the first computing device receiving the first content item or the second computing device receiving the second content item;
- and
- determine, based on the impairment, at least one source of the impairment.
A system comprising:
- a first computing device configured to:
- send a first quantity of communications indicating at least one change in a bitrate associated with a first content item;
- a second computing device configured to:
- send a second quantity of communications indicating at least one change in the bitrate associated with a second content item;
- and
- a third computing device configured to:
- receive, from the first computing device, the first quantity of communications indicating the at least one change in the bitrate associated with the first content item;
- receive, from the second computing device, the second quantity of communications indicating the at least one change in the bitrate associated with the second content item;
- determine, based on a difference between the first quantity of communications and the second quantity of communications, an impairment associated with one of the first computing device receiving the first content item or the second computing device receiving the second content item;
- and
- determine, based on the impairment, at least one source of the impairment.
