Physical layer issue detection based on client-side behavior assessments

A method comprising:

• obtaining, by a network management system, behavior data for a plurality of access point (AP) devices at a site that are managed by the network management system, wherein the plurality of AP devices provide wireless network access to one or more client devices at the site and are connected via respective cables to one or more network devices of a wired network at the site that are not managed by the network management system;
• determining, by the network management system, one or more features of the behavior data for an AP device of the plurality of AP devices, wherein the one or more features are indicative of physical connectivity of the AP device to the one or more network devices;
• detecting, by the network management system and based on the one or more features of the behavior data for the AP device, an issue with the physical connectivity of the AP device to a network device of the one or more network devices to which the AP device is connected via a cable;
• and
• outputting, by the network management system, a notification including identification information of the network device.

Non-transitory computer-readable storage media comprising instructions executable by one or more processors to cause a network management system to:

• obtain behavior data from a plurality of access point (AP) devices at a site that are managed by the network management system, wherein the plurality of AP devices provide wireless network access to one or more client devices at the site and are connected via respective cables to one or more network devices of a wired network at the site that are not managed by the network management system;
• determine one or more features of the behavior data for a AP device of the plurality of AP devices, wherein the one or more features are indicative of physical connectivity of the AP device to the one or more network devices;
• detect, based on the one or more features of the behavior data for the AP device, an issue with the physical connectivity of the AP device to a network device of the one or more network devices to which the AP device is connected via a cable;
• and
• output a notification including identification information of the network device.
