Abstract
Interested parties would like to track the location of one or more towed transport platforms continuously when they are in motion. Existing monitoring systems are powered by a combination of solar power, batteries, and intermittent tractor platform power for electrical power. All of these power sources have limitations in providing power when a towed transport platform is in motion. Solar power is not available at night. Batteries run out of energy and must be recharged. Tractor platform power is not always available to a towed transport platform. The embodiments of the invention convert the kinetic energy of a moving towed transport platform into electrical power, providing continuous power for a monitoring system to operate.
Claims17
A system to determine a geolocation of an asset, the system comprising:
- a server;
- an asset tracking device coupled to the asset and powered by an intermittent power source, the asset tracking device comprising:
- means for determining preliminary geolocation information of the asset,
- a first processor to log a set of the determined preliminary geolocation information of the asset, and
- a first transmitter to transmit at least a portion of the set of determined preliminary geolocation information to the server;
- and
- a reference geolocation device located at a reference geolocation, the reference geolocation device comprising:
- means for determining reference geolocation information of the reference geolocation, and
- a second processor communicably coupled to the server, the second processor to:
- log a set of the determined reference geolocation information, and
- send at least a portion of the set of determined reference geolocation information to the server,
- the server to:
- calculate an error correction value based on at least a portion of the set of determined reference geolocation information, and
- adjust, based on the calculated error correction value, at least one value of the preliminary geolocation information of the asset to produce corrected geolocation information of the asset.
